Hi Reader! Welcome to our new blog, Voices Spotlight, where we will share interviews and stories from all corners of our Voices community. We will shine a spotlight on some the amazing work that clinicians, hospital systems, companies, and organizations are doing to manage acute pain through non-opioid approaches, as well as the community-based work of our partners helping individuals seek and maintain recovery. In the upcoming weeks, we hope this blog will highlight many of our unsung heroes in the acute pain management space, as well as provide a platform to educate our advocates and partner organizations. We hope you will be inspired to take action with us.
You can expect the following themes to pop up in this blog:
- Who we admire. Our team will feature interviews of leading experts in acute pain management and their inspiration for getting into their chosen profession, as well as spotlights on people and programs in states highly impacted by the opioid epidemic.
- What we are reading. We will share relevant acute pain management research studies, information on non-opioid therapies, and important issues surrounding the opioid epidemic.
- Your story. Hopefully, you will be inspired to share the innovative work you are doing to advocate for non-opioid options in hospital systems, your communities and at the population level.
Most importantly, I will be your guide on this journey. My name is Dr. Shanta Whitaker, and I am the Director of Scientific Affairs for Voices for Non-Opioid Choices. It is my job to stay abreast of promising non-opioid approaches and methods and share them with my colleagues and our partners. An equal contributor to the blog will be Kali Fields, Director of Grassroots Advocacy. She will share stories of individuals and programs on the frontline of the opioid epidemic and how they are making a difference in their highly impacted states. We are excited to have you read our blog. Do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions, or want to be featured on the blog at shanta@nonopioidchoices.org
